Keepers Cottage is a beautifully converted former gamekeeper's cottage which offers peaceful, luxury accommodation for 4 people. Set in 15 acres of woodland and garden grounds, it offers views to the north of Kielder forest and to the west, Hadrian's Wall.

Less than 2 miles from Hadrian's Wall, Keepers Cottage provides an ideal base should you wish to explore the many places of interest in the region such as the Roman sites of Steel Rigg, Housesteads, Vindolanda and Carovan, and the market town of Hexham. The cities of Carlisle and Newcastle upon Tyne are less than an hour away, as is the Gateshead Metro Centre. The Lake District, Kielder Water and Beamish Open Air Museum are within easy traveling distance. The newly created Alnwick Garden with it's famous treehouse provides a great day out. Most of our visitors come to walk along some or all of Hadrian's Wall, which is just on our doorstep. The peace and tranquility of the setting of Keepers Cottage provides an ideal location in which to relax while on holiday in luxurious surroundings.

Rooms Description

The ground floor consists of a Dining/Kitchen area and a comfortable sitting room with a wood burning stove. Stone stairs off the hallway lead to the first floor bedroom which has en-suite bathroom, with a Jacuzzi bath and separate power shower. A boot room outside the back door also leads to a fully equipped laundry room. The cottage has off-road parking for two vehicles and an enclosed patio area with furniture, outside the front door. A stone flagged central hallway leads to the ground floor bedroom with solid oak flooring, 6ft wide 4-poster bed and en-suite bathroom with roll top bath. South facing French doors lead to a secluded stone flagged courtyard. Also stone stairs lead to the second bedroom with a 6ft wide super king size bed which may be arranged into twin beds.

Specialities

The en-suite bathroom has a whirlpool (Jacuzzi) bath and separate power shower. We are baby and child friendly. On request we can provide a travel cot, high chair, stair gates and fire guard. A three wheel all-terrain buggy is available for hire. Ready made meals can be provided which are home-made here at Bonnyrigg Hall. In order to save you the trouble of cooking and shopping while you are on holiday, we keep a range of delicious meals in the deep freeze, which can be pre-ordered before your arrival, or purchased when you arrive. Our farming philosophy has been to provide ourselves with free-range meat, farmed to organic standards. Our stock is allowed to mature slowly, not force fed concentrated food and only given antibiotics as a welfare issue. Our beef is rare breed Highland cows, the lamb from rare breed sheep such as Jacobs, Shetlands and Herdwicks. Our rare breed Tamworth's and Wild Boar provide pork, wild boar, bacon and gammon. The hens provide us with free-range eggs and chicken, occasionally guinea fowl is on the menu as well as quail, turkey and duck. We serve wild game (pheasant and partridge) when in season. The wild venison comes from our neighbours, Jon and Andrea Snowdon at Greenlee Farm (across the lake) where Jon runs a deer stalking business. Unfortunately, until Greenlee Lough is stocked with cod, the fish comes from North Shields. We therefore pride ourselves with minimal food miles. All of our ingredients are locally sourced, fresh, free-range and organic wherever possible. Free from artificial colourings or preservatives. Other Facilities Fully double glazed, the cottage has oil fired under floor central heating throughout and a wood-burning stove in the sitting room. Electricity, fuel costs and logs are included in the price of your stay, as are the quality bedding and towels.
