The 17th century pub bar areaSituated at the foot of Kirkby Fell, and overlooking the Duddon Estuary, the purpose-built hostel with its “en-suite” 17th century friendly Lakeland village pub (built 1691) offers luxury budget accommodation, without sacrificing the character of a traditional Lakeland holiday. Guests can self-cater or eat at the pub which serves a full menu of home cooked meals & a choice of real ales. Easily accessible, just 30 seconds walk from the scenic Cumbrian Coastal Train Line station, Coastal Path, and Cycle Route, the hostel is ideal for cyclists, walkers, train enthusiasts (we are close to both the Ravenglass and Haverthwaite Steam railways), nature lovers and families. We offer a large lockable shed and hose for bikes or other outdoor equipment. We even have our own ghost story!
Bespoke Lakeland-Break Service : For those planning a whole-hostel group booking it is possible by prior agreement to request special menus, choice of beers/wines, entertainment in the pub, outdoor pursuits activities, day trips etc. You think of it and we will price it up for you! If there are more than 16 of you we can even help arrange additional accommodation. This service is particularly suitable for family reunions, informal wedding parties, club/hen/stag weekends, or business team-building exercises.
The Duddon Sands Hostel is adjacent to the pub, and provides 16 beds. A purpose built self catering facility for families, individuals or groups, with good hot showers, a kitchen/diner, a spacious drying room, warm comfortable beds and a large bike storage shed. Breakfast can be provided through the pub by prior arrangement if whole hostel bookings require full cooked breakfasts. Evening meals are also available in the pub Thurs to Sun and lunches Sat & Sun.
we are able to offer conference / function facilities, with catering and accommodation. The whole pub and hostel can be hired for informal wedding receptions or evening parties

By train : Kirkby-in-Furness is on the Cumbrian Coastal Line which runs between Barrow-in-Furness and Carlisle where there are regular fast links to Manchester and Newcastle. Kirkby is a request stop and the station is across the road from the hostel. By road : From the M6 take junction 36 for Barrow-in-Furness & follow the A590 through Ulverston towards Dalton-in-Furness. On the outskirts of Dalton are 2 roundabouts. At both of them bear right onto the A595 for Whitehaven/Workington. Stay on this road through Ireleth and Soutergate. In the centre of Kirkby look for the Burlington Inn and Moorland Stores crossroads. Turn left, (signposted Railway Station and Sandside) and the hostel is at the bottom of this hill
