The pub has been recently refurbished and is very dog friendly.
Beautiful, luxuriously comfortable rooms ensuite or private bathroom. Stunning views
We use only the finest local ingredients in our dishes and have a seasonally influenced menu. The Mardale Inn at Bampton in the Lake District National Park offers four star bed and breakfast accommodation to visitors to this very beautiful part of the Lakes. The area is known as the Eastern Fells and is one of the most rural parts of the National Park, made famous in the 80's cult classic film, Withnail and I. The inn's proximity to Haweswater makes this the ideal base for viewing England's last remaining golden eagle, walking, biking, fishing and other hearty outdoor activities.
The inn has been refurbished and offers excellent food, cask ales and wine, real fires and a warm welcome. Menus vary according to the season and we ensure that only the best local ingredients are used to produce our dishes.
The inn has four high-quality bedrooms available for guests. They have all been recently refurbished to a high standard with very comfortable super king sized beds. These beds can be altered into two singles if required. Please let us know at the time of booking how you wish the bedrooms to be made up and we will do our best to help you. A spacious family room is also available. Room 1 overlooks peaceful fields to the side of the inn and has its own ensuite shower/bathroom facilities. Room 2 is also ensuite and has views of local fields and fells. Room 3 overlooks a field to the rear of the inn and has its own private bathroom adjacent to the bedroom. Room 4 has views of fields and fells to the front and rear of the inn, and also has an ensuite bathroom. Depending on the time of year you will see sheep contentedly grazing and lots of birds singing in the nearby trees.
The inn has lots of specialities and extends a warm welcome to walkers, families, cyclists and pet owners. Being so close to Haweswater and the eastern fells makes the inn an ideal place to base yourself. Coast to Coast walkers are very welcome as we are only 1.5 miles from the path. We do not charge extra for your pet to stay, nor to store your bicycle!

Take exit 39 on the M6 and turn right onto the A6 towards Shap. Drive through Shap heading north and turn left 100 yards after the Post Office following signs to Bampton and Haweswater and Shap Abbey. Take care on this road as it is narrow. Keep going until you reach the village of Bampton Grange (about 3.5 miles) where you will go over the river and take the immediate next right. Keep along this road for another half a mile until you reach Bampton. Turn left over the bridge (by the post office) and the inn is on your right hand side.
