The Wordsworth Hotel occupies a prominent position in the Main Street of Cockermouth, one of the oldest and most beautiful market towns in England, and of course historic birthplace of William Wordsworth, and Dorothy Wordsworth too. The town stands on the banks of the River Derwent at the mouth of the River Cocker. These two rivers are renowned for their salmon and sea trout runs, so guests can expect excellent local fishing facilities.
The historic Wordsworth Hotel dates back to the 17th Century. Originally a coaching inn, it now tastefully blends the charm and atmosphere of its past with all the modern facilities expected by today's guests. The hotel takes its name from Cockermouth's most famous son and poet William Wordsworth who was born in the town in 1770. The area gave inspiration to some of his best loved poems.
