Ambleside Backpackers is great Lake District accommodation, situated in the heart of the National Park and just 5 minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside with its many restaurants, inns, a beautiful church to visit and good shopping too. Its a superb base for access to all areas of the Lake District National Park with good bus connections to most towns and lakes for all who want to leave the car parked at home. At £16.00 per person per night, with reductions for stays over 2 nights its great value. Inclusive is a light breakfast,tea and coffee and internet use! The clean and characterful hostel is a large traditional Lakeland cottage in a wonderful location for walking, climbing, cycling,touring, boating or just relaxing and taking in the glorious scenery.

We are open all year round, and welcome large group bookings, or entire hostel bookings as well as individual travellers. Booking is highly recommended, especially during peak summer months and at weekends. Inside the hostel, guests have access to an impressive and comfortable lounge with fire,comfy chairs & piano (old and cranky - but in tune), a dining room with a fine moulded ceiling. The well equipped kitchen for guest use provides hobs, microwave, oven, guest refrigerators and storage. We are constantly amazed at the meals that guests prepare for themselves and the way some groups dress up the dining room for their meals. A good dinner service of plates, bowls dishes etc. is available for guest use. NO STAG/ HEN or DRINKING PARTIES PLEASE.

Rooms Description

Sleeping accommodation is in single sex or mixed dormitories, all with wash basins. Dorm size are 2 to 14 beds so most parties can be accommodated in rooms to suit their numbers. The first floor rooms have fine fell views. The second floor rooms have Velux type windows but are very popular with smaller groups ( still nice views but you need to stand up for them!). There are separate male and female shower rooms also secure lockers at reception. Bed linen and duvets are provided and included in the rates, but please bring your own towels. We offer squeaky floors and prehistoric plumbing, windows that rattle in gales, steps and stairs everywhere, however most people love the charm of this quaint old building and many return time after time. We ask guests to be out of the hostel each day between 1030 and 1430 while we are cleaning and like everyone to keep noise to a minimum after 2300 hrs- walk and play during the day - sleep at night please. Kitchen is locked at 2230 hrs until 0730hrs and closed at 1000 hrs for cleaning in the morning. We ask guests to be out of the hostel from 1030 hrs - 1430 hrs while we clean the place up.

Specialities

The 66 bed hostel is great for group bookings and you can book the whole hostel for yourselves. Many athletic and outdoor activities clubs are now using the hostel as a weekend basecamp. We have parking for cycles and motorcycles and a large drying room. We have a large well equipped kitchen and many good pubs and restaurants nearby. We are well known for the cleanliness of the place, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and welcoming and helpful staff.
