Ambleside Lodge, in Ambleside, dates from the late 1800s and was once a gentleman's residence, being known as 'Rothay Holme' thanks to the River Rothay. Ideally situated for walking, we're just a 2 minute walk from the centre of Ambleside, with its many pubs, shops and art gallery & museum. We're also just a 5 minute walk from the Lake Windermere steamer departure jetty at Waterhead pier. Ambleside Lodge is set in a 2.5 acre site, with woodland and well-kept lawns. The property has been beautifully restored and is tastefully decorated, and has many original features including oak panelling that was first installed in 1654.
Guests to our B&B will have access to a nearby leisure club, which has a swimming pool, sauna, spa and gym facilities. There are loads of things to do in the area, and with so many pubs and restaurants within reach you'll always be able to enjoy a delicious evening meal. Lake Windermere is less than a mile from our accommodation, and you can rent boats or take a ride on one of the regular cruises to fully explore this excellent tourist attraction. There are numerous walking routes and cycling paths for you to follow, as well as attractions like the World of Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth's former home of Dove Cottage nearby.
All 18 of our bedrooms are en suite, and we have a selection of rooms available, with double, twin and four poster bedrooms to choose from. You'll find a colour TV and a DVD player in each room, as well as a choice of DVDs. Our four poster bedrooms have been equipped with luxury Jacuzzi baths in the attached bathrooms. Families staying can book one of our connecting rooms, comprising of a double room and a twin room.
We have ample car parking, secure bike storage, free wireless internet and we allow pets to stay with prior arrangement. A free pick up service from Windermere railway station is also offered when possible, and we have laundry facilities for guests to use, as well as a drying room for clothes and shoes.
Directions from the North, leave the M6 at Junction 40 and follow the A66 towards Keswick. Take the A591 south to Ambleside and follow the one way system around the village. Follow the signs for Coniston. Turn right at the BP petrol station and thenAs you turn left at the T junction the Ambleside Lodge is immediately on your right. Directions from the South, leave the M6 at Junction 36 and follow the A591 towards Ambleside. At the traffic lights at Waterhead bear left anf follow the lake shore and onto the village centre. The Ambleside Lodge is situated on the left immediately before the start of the one way system.
