We welcome children and dogs by arrangement to our Bed and Breakfast, and no need to worry about parking in busy Ambleside, as there is space for off-road parking. The guesthouse itself is in a quiet cul-de-sac with few cars and no traffic noise. For the comfort of all our guests we are a non-smoking guesthouse throughout. Guests can relax and enjoy magnificent views from the B&B stretching out over Ambleside towards the Lakeland hills. The Howes is situated just a short, convenient stroll from the centre of Ambleside, a bustling, lively little town. It is however off the beaten track, away from any traffic noise, with many walks beginning right from the door.
Our emphasis is very much on informality and peaceful relaxation at the Howes BandB. Guests can take breakfast at a time to suite them each morning between 8-9am, and breakfast is served within the privacy of your own room. On fine mornings, a leisurely breakfast can be enjoyed out of doors, in our sunny, terraced garden. Guests may use a door key, allowing free access to bedrooms during the day and you are welcome to enjoy the garden and its fine views.
We have three guest bedrooms, one double, one king and one twin/super king bedded room. The temperature in all rooms is controlled by individual thermostats. All have en-suite shower and toilet and are situated on the ground floor, making for easy disabled access. Each bedroom is beautifully decorated and furnished, and have spacious, comfortable beds, tea and coffee making facilities, a table and chairs and colour television.
The Howes Bed and Breakfast is a perfect base for walkers and tourers, and there is easy access to many superb central Lake District walks right from the door of the guesthouse. Close by is the well-known Stock Ghyll park, a delightful wooded ravine topped by a beautiful waterfall - just right for an early morning stroll. Out over the treetops views extend to the Fairfield Horsehoe and the Langdale Pikes beyond, while Wansfell (1500 ft) rises behind.
