Creative romantics or serious fell walkers, there is a side of Grasmere that everyone can loveA ten-minute, gentle and scenic walk from Grasmere village brings you to the Forest Side Hotel. At the end of our long winding, tree enclosed drive stands the old Victorian hunting lodge of the earls of Lonsdale. Built in 1853, it is surrounded by 43 acres of both landscaped and natural gardens which are home to all manor of country wild life including badger, deer, red squirrel and of course rabbits. Once inside, you will be greeted by a warm friendly smile, and in cooler weather, an even warmer roaring fire of which there are four regularly lit.
Two large lounges are available for you to relax, de-stress and enjoy a drink, in the company of new friends and old.Our comfortable bar lounge with views of the surrounding fells is the ideal location to sit and enjoy a selection of home cooked foods. The bar menu is constantly updated to offer a choice of starters and main courses, from homemade soup and sandwiches to grilled steak and salad.Forest Side has 33 bedrooms, ranging from our basic non ensuites (ideal for walkers) to our beatiful four poster rooms. Our coach house, with many original features, sits within the grounds and also offers a choice of self-catering apartments.

Some basics are situated in the Annex (an extension to the main hotel with its own entrance) or Lodge (the old coaching lodge within the grounds of the hotel).

Travelling from the south Take the M6 to Junction 36. Follow the A591/A65 in the direction of Kendal. Bypass Kendal by staying on the A591. Drive through Windermere, Ambleside and Rydal. As you approach Grasmere go straight across the round about (do NOT turn into Grasmere village) We are about ¾ mile along the A591 on the right, just as the speed limit changes to 30 miles per hour. Travelling for north Take the M6 to junction 40. Take the A66 in the direction of Keswick (North Lakes). At Threlkeld (just passed the White Horse pub) take the B5322 (this is signed for as Windermere and St Johns in the Vale). This will cut off the approach to Keswick and leads onto the A591. Follow the A591 towards Grasmere. We are just past the Swan Hotel on the left hand side and the Church of Our Lady is at the side of our drive.
