Our 20 acre lake forms the heart of The Tranquil Otter private nature reserve and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna including otters, swans, kingfishers and numerous species of ducks. Surrounding the lake is private woodland with pathways around the perimeter giving access to a wetland board walk and a bird screen and hide. Walkers stand a good chance of seeing red squirrels, deer, woodpeckers, owls and a wide variety of other animal and bird life. The Tranquil Otter Nature Reserve and Lodges have excellent disabled access, and we are a place that wheel chair users can enjoy to the full. The site, including the perimeter path, the lake (via an electrically powered wheely boat), and the shop are all accessible. All seven luxury lodges are accessible with two (lodges 4 and 7) having tailor made accessible shower rooms with grab rails.
Seven Luxury Lodges (sleeping up to 2, 4 or 6 people) are available. All the lodges are maintained to a high standard and offer all modern facilities. What makes the lodges unique is their location right at the water's edge and all lodges enjoy unobstructed views of the lake from the lounge and the bedroom. All Luxury Lodges have a log burner, DVD and Video player and have a free view set top box.
The Luxury Lodges are spacious and have an en-suite master bedroom, a logburning stove and a dishwasher. They have oak floors, granite worktops and are furnished to a very high standard. Leave the M6 at junction 43 and take the first exit A69 road into Carlisle passing a Land Rover dealership on your left. Go straight for about a mile and take the first right at some traffic lights just after "The Beehive" pub. The road is signed A595 West. Pass Carlisle College on your right. You will shortly come to a T junction at a set of traffic lights, turn right onto a dual carriageway. Get into the left hand lane as you approach the big roundabout. Bear left which will take you on a dual carriage way passing the castle on your right. Get into the right hand lane. Keep straight through a set of traffic lights until you reach another roundabout. Bear right along the B5307/Newtown Road. About 5 miles, 3/4 mile after Moorhouse, pass a bird of prey centre and then immediately go around a right hand bend. Start indicating left as you go around this bend. We are the first drive you come to on the left, discreetly signed "The Lough", with white stones up the side. This is about 50 Metres before the 30 mph speed limit sign going into Thurstonfield village.
