Byresteads B&B is a beautifully converted Old Homestead farm ideally located close to Cockermouth, birthplace of William Wordsworth. The B&B is a traditonal Cumbrian long house full of character and Olde World charm, combined with all modern amenities. The light and airy rooms have exposed beams complimented by Oak furniture, and slate floors warmed by underfloor heating for added comfort and warmth. We're a perfect walker base, being situated in the Northern Lake District and at the head of the idyllic vale of Lorton. Guests have easy access to renowned Lake District peaks such as Skiddaw. The property is only four miles from the market town of Cockermouth and twelve miles from Keswick. The spectacular lakes Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite, Crummock Water, Buttermere and Loweswater are all near to the Bed and Breakfast.
The Old Homestead is completely self contained for extra privacy and has a large welcoming communal lounge and seperate breakfast room. Your hosts come over in the mornings and make you a traditional Cumbrian breakfast, with a vegetarian option available, or a continental breakfast. The spacious oak beamed lounge has lime walls, underfloor heating and 3 mullioned windows overlooking the fells. Charming features abounding, including the inglenook, which is large enough to stand up in, and has a spice cupboard, bible hole, and small fire window. SORRY WE DO NOT ALLOW DOGS.
All the rooms at Byresteads Farm B&B are of the highest standard, with beautiful features such as beamed ceilings and panoramic views from the windows. All rooms are bright and airy, each with en-suite facilities and underfloor heating. The property has been sympathetically restored with many of the rooms having exposed beams, and there are luxury touches everywhere such as oak furniture and leather chairs. Sofas were chosen to compliment and reflect the style and quality of the rooms. Double rooms and family rooms are available, and our deluxe Master Room has a delightful four poster bed. Rooms benefit from exquisite views of the local Lakeland Fells.
Byresteads Farm has a long history, and is a 16th Century farmhouse recently converted to the highest quality B&B accommodation. In the lobby you can see the large commercial bread oven, possibly used to bake bread for the surrounding farms and villages, still with the original dome intact. In the sitting room step back in time as you stand in the unique inglenook and absorb the history. The oak beams and doors again are a prominent feature in the dining room as is the old cast iron boiling pot, once used for washing clothes.
