Highbridge Cottages are two idyllic 4 star self-catering holiday cottages, located in the charming village of Braithwaite, a walker's paradise in the northern Lake District. Sitting at the foot of the Whinlatter pass, the village acts as a gateway to the whole of the north-western chain of hills, a favourite spot of the renowned Lake District fell wanderer Alfred Wainwright. There are three pub/restaurants and two general shops within easy walking distance, and the village is also only two miles from Keswick, the capital of the northern Lakes in Cumbria.

The two cottages form part of a short terrace raised up above Coledale Beck, which flows gently past the forecourt. High Bridge sleeps 6 and Highbridge Cottage sleeps 4, or 5 with the collapsible bed. Both cottages are equipped to the same high level (4 stars), and are warm, comfortable, non-smoking and dog-friendly. Rooms Description
High Bridge is a superb 4-star self-catering holiday cottage with gas central heating, and also with marvellous views from the main living room of the northern fells across the village roof-tops. The cottage sleeps 6 people, and includes a large living room with Freesat TV, DVD recorder, and a CD player/radio. There's a dining room with mahogany dining table and french window access to the yard at the side of the building, which is secure for dogs. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, coffee maker and a clothes washing/drying machine. There's one double bedroom with king sized Sealy bed and two twin bedrooms, one with bunk beds. Guests have a large bathroom with bath, separate shower, handbasin, and W.C., plus there is a separate shower room, with power shower and wash basin. Also, for extra convenience the property has a separate W.C. with handbasin. A cot and high chair are available. Highbridge Cottage has one double bedroom and one twin-bedded room, a cosy living room with an open log fire, and a large kitchen/dining room equipped with the same facilites as High Bridge.
Specialities
Highbridge Cottage also has a 4-star ETC rating for quality and luxury. A cot and high chair are available. On the southern side of the cottage, where you can also sit out, is a yard which is secure for dogs. There is free parking space for one car per cottage at the side of the building, with plenty more free off-road parking available within 100 yards. Environmentally-conscious guests will notice that the Cottages have acquired a Bronze award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme, and will appreciate the solar panels used for hot water and the extensive re-cycling facilities available. The Cottages support the Tourism & Conservation Partnership, specifically their project to protect the Ospreys nesting just one mile away.

Directions
From the M6: leave at Junction 40 (Penrith) and drive about 20 miles west on the A66, ignoring the three turnings to Keswick. From Ambleside and Grasmere, and the southern Lakes: take the A591 to Keswick, and turn right for the A66 (follow the signs for Cockermouth and Workington) when descending into Keswick. About a mile past the third Keswick turning on the A66, take the B5292 to Lorton and Braithwaite. In about 200 yards you pass the Royal Oak pub on your left, and then after about 100 yards you will see a sign to “Youth Centre” and “Coledale”. Go left over the stone bridge, and the Cottages can be seen as part of the building immediately on your left.
