Thwaite Howe B&B - Thornthwaite
Small friendly country house Bed and Breakfast in it's own grounds, with views across the Derwent Valley
For the perfect quieter retreat in the North Lake District, the charmingly decorated and cosy Thwaite Howe Bed and Breakfast is ideal. It is a country house built of local slate and stone in approximately 1860, and is most attractively situated in over one acre of it's own grounds. Thornthwaite Forest provides a picture-postcard backdrop, and the house stands in an elevated position offering superb views across the Derwent Valley to the magnificent mountain views of Skiddaw, Blencathra and Clough Head. If you love walking, then we're a perfect base for you.
Facilities at Thwaite Howe are numerous, and include a relaxing lounge with books and games. Breakfast using the finest local produce can be enjoyed in our comfortable dining room which enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding Lakeland Fells. The house is centrally heated throughout, and there is an efficient drying room, which is good news for walkers. We have a garage where bikes can be safely locked away overnight.
Rooms Description
All of our bedrooms are exquisitely decorated in a unique style. All have en-suite bathrooms, colour television, radio-alarm, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers and radiator thermostats to control the room temperature. Free WiFi internet access is also available to our guests.
Specialities
Thwaite Howe provides an excellent centre from which to explore the Lake District. All of the Lake District is easily accessible from the house, particularly attractive market towns like Keswick and Cockermouth which are just three and nine miles away respectively. Ambleside in the heart of Lakeland and Penrith (where access is gained to the M6 motorway, junction 40) are both about half and hour's drive. For the walker, Skiddaw, Helvellyn and Blencathra are all nearby. Thornthwaite Forest lies immediately behind the house, so guests will find forest trails and walks nearby, where a wide variety of birds and other wildlife, including deer, can be seen. Activities within easy reach of the house include bird watching, pony trekking, sailing and boating: Bassenthwaite Lake is just a mile away. Golf enthusiasts are welcomed at Keswick and Penrith Golf Clubs, and there are many opportunities for fishing in the area.
