For the perfect quieter retreat in the North Lake District, the charmingly decorated and cosy Thwaite Howe Bed and Breakfast is ideal. It is a country house built of local slate and stone in approximately 1860, and is most attractively situated in over one acre of it's own grounds. Specialities

Thwaite Howe Bed and Breakfast provides an excellent centre from which to explore the Lake District. All of the Lake District is easily accessible from the house, particularly attractive market towns like Keswick and Cockermouth which are just three and nine miles away respectively. Ambleside in the heart of Lakeland and Penrith (where access is gained to the M6 motorway, junction 40) are both about half and hour's drive. For the walker, Skiddaw, Helvellyn and Blencathra are all nearby. Thornthwaite Forest lies immediately behind the house, so guests will find forest trails and walks nearby, where a wide variety of birds and other wildlife, including deer, can be seen. Activities within easy reach of the house include bird watching, pony trekking, sailing and boating: Bassenthwaite Lake is just a mile away. Golf enthusiasts are welcomed at Keswick and Penrith Golf Clubs, and there are many opportunities for fishing in the area.
