Built in 1688 and situated beneath Blencathra, with stunning views looking over towards the Helvellyn Range, this traditional Lakeland Inn offers a warm Cumbrian welcome to all its customers. Mellow Lakeland stone, traditional architecture and such a peaceful setting make the Horse & Farrier a perfect place to enjoy a quiet pint, delicious food or a short break away from it all Our Restaurant is well known locally for the quality and imagination of its food and our Bar serves some of the best Jennings real ales in the Lake District. Together with our well-appointed en-suite bed & breakfast Accommodation, this really is a special place to spend some time.
The Horse & Farrier Inn has an excellent reputation in the Keswick area for good food, from our hearty Lakeland breakfast to our home cooked meals which are served either in our intimate Restaurant or in the Bar. Our Menus are interesting and varied. Dishes make full use of seasonal and local produce and are freshly prepared in our gleaming kitchen. An ever growing number of regular diners together with numerous guide book recommendations are testament to the kitchen team's abilities. The Horse & Farrier Head Chef, Garth Wilson was voted "Most Inspiring Cumbria Chef of the Year for 2005" by the Cumbrian Tourist Board. The AA regularly awards the AA rosette for the quality of our food and service. Vegetarians are also well catered for with a large selection of vegetarian options available on the Menu. While you're out working up an appetite in the clear Lakeland air, or having a relaxing drink in the bar, we're busy in the kitchen preparing wholesome, tasty dishes for you to enjoy. We have a great range of quality wines and champagnes to suit every budget and not forgetting our excellent range of real ales from Jennings and other well known breweries.
Complementing the bar and restaurant of the Horse & Farrier are 9 well appointed bed & breakfast (B&B) guest rooms, all with excellent views, but each with a slightly different perspective on the local countryside from its window. Due to the enormous popularity of the Horse & Farrier Inn we have recently purchased additional B&B guest accommodation to the Inn. The Horse & Farrier Guest House is situated opposite our rear car park less than 30 seconds walk from the Inn and offers an additional 4 guest rooms We're "dog-friendly" too - well behaved dogs are always welcome but there is a small charge to cover extra cleaning per stay.

From the East: Take J40 of the M6 Motorway and take the A66 heading west for Keswick. After 13 miles, take the first exit on the right for Threlkeld village. Follow into the village and the Horse & Farrier is in clear view on the left after approx 200 yards. From the South: Take the A591 from Windermere heading North for Ambleside and Keswick. Drive past Thirlmere and approx 1 mile beyond the Kings Head at Thirlspot, turn right for St John's In the Vale. Follow this road for 3 miles until you reach the T Junction with the A66. Turn right and then take the first left into Threlkeld. We are 200 yards on the right. From the West: Take the A66 eastbound for Keswick. By pass Keswick and continue for three miles. Take the first exit you see on the left for Threlkeld. Follow right through the village until you see The Horse & Farrier Inn on your left.
