The historic Kings Head Hotel and Inn is a former seventeenth century coaching inn situated at the foot of Helvellyn in the heart of The Lake District. We're perfectly set in the heart of the Northern Lake District, surrounded by spectacular scenery with unsurpassed views toward St Johns in the Vale, Blencathra and Skiddaw. The Kings Head offers both formal and more informal dining experiences. Both have a choice of Traditional English and Mediterranean dishes featuring local specialties created from the finest local produce. Guests can enjoy fine dining in our award winning St Johns restaurant, where our Head Chef presents a creative three course seasonal menu. For a more laid back alternative choose our Bar Restaurant where we serve a range of traditional favourites in addition to daily and seasonal specials.

Our bar lounge offers real ales, fine wines and a range of malt whiskies and the adjoining entertainment suite provides a pool table, darts, dominoes and large screen TV. Our residents lounge is the perfect spot to relax, with comfortable armchairs and an open fire in winter. Books and board games are provided for guests.

Rooms Description

Guests can choose from seventeen beautifully appointed and furnished bedrooms, comprising of doubles, twins, single and family rooms. Superior rooms are available with features such as kingsize or four poster beds and Victorian bathrooms. For special occasions we can arrange flowers, chocolates and chilled champagne to be waiting in your room upon arrival. All bedrooms are individually furnished with en suite bathroom (shower, basin and toilet), colour television, tea and coffee making facilities and direct dial telephones. Most rooms have spectacular views of the surrounding Lakeland fells.

All our guests benefit from free membership of the Low Wood Leisure Centre in Ambleside with swimming pool, sauna and gym for the duration of their stay. The Kings Head is also a renowned wedding venue, and perfect for your special day, surrounded by spectacular scenery. We offer a full range of services for Civil Ceremonies, receptions and evening celebrations, tailor-made to your specific requirements. A full wedding package is available to include a dedicated manager on the day, reception drinks, menu selection, wines and toasting wines, flowers, room hire, toast master and accommodation. Take advantage of one of our many special discount and deal stays, including our Midweek Summer Special with a £10 discount per person per night. This offer is valid from Sunday to Thursday until the end of July 2005. Other specials include Christmas and New Year Special breaks. Book before the end of August 2005 and receive a discount of £25 per person on the package rate. Guests are also entitled to special rates on dates surrounding Christmas and New Year period. Long Weekend Specials are also available, including staying Friday and Saturday night, and getting Sunday night accommodation at half price. This is valid until the end of March 2006.
