Bongate House is a delightful Georgian 4 diamond-graded bed and breakfast situated on the outskirts of the attractive town of Appleby-in-Westmorland in the Lake District. The house has extensive gardens with fine views over the River Eden and Appleby Castle. Built around 1760, in the style of many large farmhouses of that period Bongate House benefits from beautiful gardens, and guests are welcome to use the large lawn to play croquet. We have about a one acre garden for your enjoyment and to wander around at your leisure. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is also just as close by, perfect for hill walking and taking in the beautiful Yorkshire landscape. For golfers, the Appleby Golf Club is also a short drive away.
Walk between the ancient box hedges to the raised goldfish pond and the patios, sit on the patios and enjoy the sun,or stroll down to the end of the garden. Breakfast is served in the dining room, and is prepared from locally purchased produce. The sausages are made in town to a secret recipe by our butcher's wife, and the eggs come from our own chickens. We of course can cater for any diet. There is a resident's lounge and also a quiet lounge where you can sit and read. Guests can also enjoy fine views of Appleby Castle and the River Eden from our garden.

Directions
From the M6 (Northbound), turn off at junction 38, follow the signs to Appleby B6260, when you arrive in town at the top of the hill, follow the road down and over the river bridge to a 'T' junction, turn right, B6542, go past the bowling green on the right up the hill and Bongate House is the first house at the top of the hill on the right-hand side. From the M6 (Southbound), turn off at junction 40, on to the A66, follow the signs for Appleby, turn off at the bypass junction, B6542, follow the road round and down to the river. Do not go into town but continue past the bowling green on the right up the hill & Bongate House is the first house at the top of the hill on the right-hand side.
