The Fat Lamb Country Inn in Ravenstonedale near Kirkby Stephen is a truly lovely 17th Century coaching inn and restaurant with the unique additional amenity of its own nature reserve in its grounds. Here at the friendly Fat Lamb we offer a relaxed and informal atmosphere where you can rest weary limbs and enjoy the warm and welcoming surroundings of a classical country inn. We provide two star bed and breakfast or half board accommodation in comfortable en-suite bedrooms, suitable for a wide range of guests.
Set in beautiful open countryside midway between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, The Fat Lamb has an unusual feature arguably unique to such an establishment. To the rear of the inn, beyond the garden, we have our own nature reserve. Crossbank Nature Reserve is a wildlife haven of our own creation, home to a great variety of plants and animals and a great spot for guests and visitors alike to take in the beauty of nature, indulge in a spot of wildlife photography or bird-watching in our purpose built hide. Nearby Kirkby Stephen (6 miles/12 minutes by car), is a traditional Cumbrian market town with a good range of shops and cafes serves as a base for tourism in the Eden Valley area and is on the line of Alfred Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast Walk.
The Fat Lamb is a traditional Cumbrian Inn with a traditional bar serving hand pulled ales and a great selection of malt whiskies, and a highly acclaimed restaurant serving tasty meals made with fresh locally sourced produce. The hotel has several letting rooms available for short or long stays; each room is traditionally furnished with comfortable beds, ample space for storage, a TV for entertainment and drinks making facilities. All rooms feature en-suite bathroom facilities and five of the rooms are on the ground floor offering accommodation suitable for guests in wheelchairs and those with other mobility difficulties and disabilities. There are two lounges where guests can enjoy a drink and a chat with friends or fellow residents or simply relax and warm themselves by the open fire on the magnificent old Yorkshire range.
As well as the fantastic nature reserve, outside there are dining patios to the front and rear as well as informal gardens featuring picnic tables and a children’s play area. The Fat Lamb is an excellent venue for a wide range of functions, whether that is smaller events like business meetings, birthdays, anniversaries and other parties or larger special events like a wedding reception. We are able to arrange a marquee and covered walkways for the rear garden and entertainment to suit your taste and budget.
