About this Bed and Breakfast

A five star bed and breakfast in Bowness on Windermere, Oakbank House guarantees your stay will be one to remember. We’re centrally located and many of our rooms, including our dining room, overlook Lake Windermere and the fells. The guest house dates back over 160 years and it was a former “gentleman’s residence”, to this day it still retains many of its original features. We welcome couples on a romantic retreat and walkers looking to explore the Lake District.

Bedrooms / Bathrooms

Each of the 12 en-suite bedrooms at Oakbank House has been individually designed and decorated, providing our guests with the maximum amount of comfort. Rooms also have a flatscreen Freeview TV, tea/coffee making facilities and a hairdryer.

We have a number of superior rooms available and these have fantastic views of Lake Windermere.

Bed linen, towels and designer toiletries are provided.


Breakfast is served in the dining room and we only use the very best local produce.

Around and About

A short stroll from the guest house will take you to the many restaurants, shops and bars in the town.  During the day you can visit the Beatrix Potter Exhibition and The Old Laundry Theatre. Why not go out on the lake itself on one of the various types of boats available for hire or go on a Windermere Lake Cruise. Later, you can visit the Steamboat Museum.


From M6 junction 36, follow A590 which becomes the A591 to Windermere, (16 miles) then turn into Windermere village and follow main road through village, carry on straight down into Bowness on Windermere.

When you reach Bowness you will see a cinema and public car park on your right, carry on and when you see the Lakeland shop on your left turn into Helm Road and Oakbank House is situated 50 metres up on the left hand side.
