Imagine an idyllic rural retreat just a short stroll from the traditional Lakeland Village of Coniston and close to the shores of a peaceful lake and you have Thwaite Cottage. It is set in two acres of garden and woodland down a country lane mid-way between the Village and the head of lake. If you are seeking a quiet place to stay that is full of character, centuries old, and in a beautiful location, then look no further.

Coniston is an excellent hiking centre. The Old Man, Swirl How and Wetherlam look down on the village and close by are the Langdales and the fairfield range. Most major fell walks are within easy distance. We are always happy to advise walkers, help plan routes and loan maps, guides and books. We have a comfortable beamed sitting roo with walking books, maps, television, tea and coffee. On a summers day you can relax on a sunny window seat and plan the next days assault on a Lakeland Fell. In the winter you can curl up with a book on a comfy sofa in front of the log fire.
