This cosy B&B guesthouse is ideal for easy access to both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Park. Our aim is to offer guests the opportunity to relax and take a break from everyday life. On your arrival you will be welcomed with a cup of tea and home made cake or biscuits by the log burning stove in the sitting room. Guests have easy access to the charming village of Ravenstonedale, which lies at the foot of the Howgills, and is lined with attractive traditional houses and cottages.Coldbeck House was originally Georgian, built circa 1820 then later converted to a Victorian gentleman’s residence. The house is full of light, with lovely views, either over the garden or the village. There are many unique and special features in and around the house, notably some splendid examples of Victorian stained and coloured glass. Guests can relax in the 2 acre garden grounds which has many woodland paths and garden enthusiasts will find a wealth of interesting plants and specimen trees to identify and a small bog garden on the site of the monastery fish pond!
All three delightful rooms are en-suite and individually designed and equipped with all amenities. Each room has a television, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilities, and a CD player with a small selection of CDs and many other luxury touches. The Howgill Room is a lovely light room with a marvellous bay window which gives views up to Green Bell on the Howgills. There is a wonderful brass kingsize bed and a huge mirror over a splendid marble fireplace. The bathroom has the luxury of underfloor heating and a fine view over the garden. Perfect for a romantic weekend getaway, this room has a private suite that is approached by its own staircase. The Leat Room is a twin bedded room with lovely antique furniture, overlooking the gardens and village. The bathroom is well equipped with an electric shower over the bath and has lovely views over the croquet lawn and woodland. Finally, The Scandale Room is a bright and sunny room with views of the mill leat and front garden and then over the beck to the village church. It has a wonderful kingsize pine bed and a large bathroom with a roll-top bath, separate shower and underfloor heating. Coldbeck House is the perfect B&B walker base. The guesthouse is just 5 miles from the thriving local town of Kirkby Stephen and eating out locally is good. We offer a new service at the b&b a guide walking package, including the Howgills, lakes and yorkshire Dales. There are two inns just a few minutes walk away, both offering real ale and home made food. Occasionally we offer dinner to groups of guests by arrangement and always use seasonal and fresh local ingredients wherever possible. Guests have easy access to The Eden Valley which has many places of interest to visit such as Pendragon Castle and Smardale Nature Reserve and there are many delightful local villages which all offer their own special features including Farmers Markets and Craft Fairs. We also offer 2&3 day cookery courses these can be tailored to your own desire.
