The Cumberland Hotel is beautifully situated near Alston in the heart of the North Pennines. This region is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is within easy reach of the Lake District National Park. Northumberland National Park and Yorkshire Dales National Park, as well as Newcastle, Carlisle, Penrith, Appleby, Keswick, Ambleside, Kendal, are all within easy driving distance. We're the ideal location to explore all that the North of England has to offer, from Alnwick Castle where Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone was filmed to Alston itself, a delightful old market town with vernacular architecture and a cobbled main street. Alston featured in the TV version of Dicken's Oliver Twist! The hotel offers a number of superb discounts to guests including 50% reduction for children under 14 when staying with parents and a 10% reduction from list price when stopping for 4 or more days. Further discounts are available to cyclists and walking groups, and charity groups undertaking the Coast to Coast Run!

Guests can relax in our non smoking lounge with television or enjoy a drink in our Lounge Bar and admire the views of the fells and the magnificent sunsets. Below is the Cellar Bar with access to the patio/beer garden and the quoits pitch. Both bars serve the best of real ales as well as wines, spirits and lagers. The Cumberland is renowned for it's first class restaurant and booking is advisable. The comfortable restaurant is non smoking and open to both residents and non-residents with provision for 40 covers. All food is freshly prepared in our own kitchens (vegetarians are well catered for) and guests are assured of a dining experience with a difference in a place full of character. Ample car parking is available. The restaurant is also used for residents breakfast (Full English or continental) and for our popular Sunday Roasts (these can also be served in the 'Lounge Bar' if preferred).
