Penny Hill Farm Cottage - Eskdale

Historic Eskdale Cottage, Once Owned By Beatrix Potter, 2 Bedrooms, Stunning Views, B&B In Farmhouse

Historic Penny Hill Farm Cottage was once owned by Beatrix Potter, and is reached via Doctor Bridge, one of the prettiest spots on the River Esk. Now owned by the National Trust, the farm is a working farm and our main business is Herdwick Sheep with lambing taking place during the month of April. In addition to the holiday cottage, Bed and Breakfast accommodation is also available in the farmhouse. We're situated just one mile up from the La'al Ratty (the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway) towards Hardknott Pass. Penny Hill Farm is conveniently within walking distance of three pubs, the nearest being only five minutes walk away. For the comfort of all the cottage operates a no smoking policy throughout.

Spectacular views across to Harter Fell and other Eskdale Valley hills can be seen from the property. Surrounding the farm are a wide range of walks from a gentle stroll down the river or a slightly harder slog up one of the many fells in this beautiful valley. From the front door and all the windows at Penny Hill Farm Cottage are uninterrupted views of the Lake District fells. The cottage makes the perfect Lake District romantic retreat or walking base. Scafell Pike is within easy reach, and Wastwater, England's deepest lake, is also close by, as are hundreds of riverside, valley and mountain walks and climbs. Attractions such as the Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway and Muncaster Castle, with its azaleas, rhododendrons and Owl Sanctuary are easily accessible.
