Budget Hotels B&B, Holiday Cottages and Flats in the Lake District

Budget accommodation in the Lake District costs between £25 and £35 per person per night B&B. The range of properties that can be found in this price band is very wide and particularly good value can be found in the abundant supply of high quality Bed and Breakfast accommodations throughout the Lake District and Cumbria.

Budget hotels in the Lake District can be found in the most popular areas like Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick, but less so in the peak seasons. Bed and Breakfast accommodation (B&B) is normally a better option but by far the best value accommodation per person is the self catering option. There is a large choice of budget self catering holiday accommodation ranging from traditional holiday cottages to studio flats, apartments, houses. There are also many holiday parks where you can hire static caravans in the Lake District.

Lake District low cost weekend breaks are most easily found out of the main seasons. Try to book your holiday or break away from peak periods such as Bank Holidays, Christmas and New Year, Easter, Summer and half term holidays. Find budget accommodation in the Lake District

Budget B&B Guest House Bed and Breakfasts

Budget Lake District Bed and Breakfast (B&Bs) provide excellent service and value for money, often located in stunning settings with wonderful Lake District views. Staying at a budget B&B will cost between £25 and £35 per person bed and breakfast. If you plan to stay for 3 or more nights then you may get a discount on the main published price. Many guesthouse owners actively promote 3 night mid-week reductions or have special offers related to the length of stay.

Budget accommodation does not mean low standards in the Lake District. In fact Cumbria boasts some of the most consistently high standards of accommodation found anywhere in England. The most recognised rating system for B&Bs are the English Tourist Council (ETC) diamond ratings. Check for this when making a booking.

For a real treat try staying away from the traditional tourist hot spots like Windermere and Kendal. There are numerous excellent quality B&Bs in beautiful locations

Budget Hotels and Hotel Accommodation

Lake District hotels and particularly hotel chains provide good value holiday breaks which often feature dinner bed and breakfast as an all in deal. Check in their listings on iknow-lakedistrict for more details.

You are most likely to get significant discounts in low season and mid week. Budget weekend breaks are often for three nights rather than just Friday and Saturday.

Most people are familiar with the Star rating system for hotels. Budget hotels are likely to be in the region of one to three stars.

Budget Holiday Cottages and Self Catering Accommodation

Budget self catering accommodation such as holiday cottages, flats or apartments is a great way to keep your Lake District holiday costs down. Excellent self catering facilities are provided by Cumbria caravan parks and holiday parks if you choose to rent a static caravan.

Budget self catering holidays work out cheaper the more people in your group. For example, £1,000 for 7 days self catering accommodation for 10 people works out at just over £14 per person per night.

Self catering holiday cottages, flats and apartments are rated using the English Tourist Council (ETC) diamond rating system. At the best value end of the market there are many properties that choose not to go through the expense of accreditation and pass on those savings to their customers. Non-accredited accommodations can therefore be very cost effective but you have no guarantee of the services on offer.

Lake District breaks to match your budget

Booking very early can often save you money. Hoteliers like to fill up their rooms in advance and are especially keen to get deposits and advance payments out of season. For example, making a week long summer booking in November or December is more likely to get you a budgeter holiday than making the same booking in Easter.

Booking late or last minute can also save you money. It is much better for a room or cottage to generate some money rather than no money. Check the 'Availability' section on many of the iknow-lakedistrict listings for late availability.
