Outdoor Activities North Lake District Fells near Keswick

The highest point in the Northern Fells is of course old widower Skiddaw at 931m, or 3,054 ft. Move further North of Skiddaw and you'll hit the unusually large fell High Pike. Wonder if Chris Bonnington still climbs High Pike most days that he's in? He and family live in Caldbeck.

Walking Guides to the Northern Fells

The Southern aspect of the Northern Fells, including Skiddaw and Blencathra are more renowned than the Northern aspect taking you up to the quiet Caldbeck and Uldale Fells. Useful guides giving you a real flavour of the Northern Fells: '

Wainwright's Tour in the Lake District', 'A Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells. The Northern Fells, Book Five'. A.W. Wainwright. (1962)

'A Walk Around the Lakes. A visit to Britain's Lake District'. Hunter Davies. (1979). Orion.

Rambler's Guide. Lake District', by John Gillham & Ronald Turnbull. (2000) Harper Collins.
