Every February Keswick, one of the film capitals of the North, hosts the fabulous world cinema film festival. Visitors are guaranteed a diverse mix of cinema, ranging from hidden films buried in the archives, to world cinema, to themed series focusing on particular directors.

The reputation of Keswick's Theatre by the Lake has been growing nationally and internationally, and this venue is a key host to festival events throughout the year in Keswick. There's the literature and jazz festival, with events hosted here, but all year round this theatre offers challenging performances, with special homage to local writers, for example Melvyn Bragg.
The theatre has two on-site cafes, and a free gallery. Access to the theatre is excellent, with full lift service to all floors and wheel chair spaces in the theatre.
You can browse or buy at this unusual gallery of contemporary art work, including ceramics and various quirky gifts. You'll find a very pleasant cafe on-site as well serving speciality coffees, teas, bagels and homemade soup and cakes. The cafe makes a point of using 'Fair Trade' products.
