Ullswater Tourist Information

Ullswater has the reputation of being known as 'England's most beautiful lake'. Once seen, you wouldn't argue with that. Perhaps it's the views of striking fells like Sheffield Pike jutting up beyond Ullswater that enhance it's beauty, the Lakeland Fells frame Ullswater it if you like, or Glenridding Dodd at the Southern tip makes for dramatic scenery. Great panoramic views of Ullswater are assured at the peaks of these. Or to note Stybarrow Dodd which drops in 'stages to the shore of Ullswater'. (see Wainwright, book 1, Sheffield Pike). Walking the surrounding fells is only part of the appeal of Ullswater. It is less crowded than Windermere, more friendly, but facilities are numerous including camping and caravan site space right alongside the lake, watersports like windsurfing, and you can take a trip on the Ullswater Steamer from various pier points, including Glenridding Pier and Pooley Bridge Pier.
